PS3 Tops All Hardware in Japan Thanks to Yakuza

Sega's Yakuza 3 gave Sony's platform a nice boost in the latest weekly sales in Japan. The PS3 outsold all other platforms.

In last week's Japanese sales report, Microsoft had a rare victory: the Xbox 360 outsold both Wii and PS3. The most recent data from Media Create, however, shows that for the week ending March 1, Sony's PS3 leaped to the top of the chart with 36,513 units sold, which is around 20,000 units better than last week's PS3 total.
Sales for Sony's platform were largely driven by the new release of Sega's Yakuza 3, which topped the software chart with 372,301 copies sold.
Portables continue to be hot in Japan, and both the PSP and the DSi were hot on the heels of the PS3 during the week. The PSP sold 35,588 units, driven mostly by Koei's Dynasty Warriors: Strikeforce, and the DSi sold another 35,827 units.
Meanwhile, the Wii was up only slightly from the previous week, selling 17,876 units, while the Xbox 360 fell 14,000 units to just 11,795 following last week's surge with Square Enix's Star Ocean 4. Rounding out the hardware were the DS Lite and PS2, which sold 11,774 units and 5,099 units, respectively.
