THQ announces Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II (PC)

The worst kept secret in strategy gaming is revealed as THQ officially

unveils the next iteration

of Dawn of WarBy GameSpy Staff April 3, 2008

THQ announced today that a follow-up to Relic's critically acclaimed Warhammer 40,000: Dawn
of War franchise is in the works. According to the information released, Warhammer 40,000:
Dawn of War II will continue the same aggressive take-no-prisoners style of RTS gaming it
pioneered in 2004 on Relic proprietary Essence Engine 2.0, the engine that powered Company
of Heroes, GameSpy's 2006 PC Game of the Year. Purchasers of Soulstorm, the recently
released third expansion pack for the original Dawn of War will also be able to participate in a
beta test for the new game.
The Warhammer 40,000 universe is based on the popular Games
Workshop tabletop strategy game in which players use miniatures and dice to simulate military
combat in a far future universe. This unusual setting posits a fantasy universe with 40,000
years of technological evolution behind it in which space-faring versions of Orks, demonic chaos
warriors and other-dimensional Eldar (elves) and others perpetually battle against the Empire
of Man and each another with laser rifles and flamethrowers augmenting a traditional arsenal of
spells and swords. Of the races featured in the previous game, only two -- the Space Marines
and the Orks -- have been confirmed for Dawn of War II. Both races will be playable in a full-co-
op campaign. No release date has been set for Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II.
